Steve’s Comments: Lepidoptera is an order of insects that includes butterflies and moths. This piece is an artistic rendition of the molting of a caterpillar into a butterfly, a natural miracle. The top of the vase is a glossy glaze mottled browns and blacks like butterfly wings, the vases’ attached handles like the butterflies delicate feet, all emerging from the larvae below, a matte green glaze.

Description: Wheel thrown cabinet vase with glossy browns and blacks at the top, flowing into a green matte drip glaze for the lower half. Five attached handles surround the vase midway. Vase form is cylindrical with a collared in top section where five handles are attached with a textured finish near the point the glaze coloring changes.

Glaze: Glossy brown and black at top of vase flowing into a matte green drip for the lower part of the vase.
