Abstract Trees

Steve’s Comments: A somewhat classic Arts & Crafts era shape, cylindrical but tapered at the top, this vase has conventionalized and abstract trees and foliage elements. The geometric treatment for the tree trunk and angular branches to some extent inspired by Arthur Baggs’ design techniques at Alfred University and his influence on early 1900’s Marblehead pottery. Glazing is an off white matte with speckles, design applied with under and overglazing, the foliage dabbled on with a variety of grays, browns and some red.
