Steve’s Comments: This vase has an interesting gourd shape in the neck treatment and overall shape including the panels around the vase that imitate a gourd’s ribbing. It is experimental in my faux-bois (false wood) treatment creating the seven wood-like “panels.” Most of my previous faux-bois work was creating tree branches as handles or decoration. For those who like the tactile experience of a vase there is a distinct difference in the textural feel of the vase, the green smooth matte finish contrasting with the rough wood like texture of the faux-bois panels. During the firing the clay is converted to vitrified ceramic and therefore will hold water for fresh flowers. A mission oak table will make a good pairing for this gourd.
